The horrific shooting at the Republican baseball practice last week...Early Monday morning's terrible attack--against members of London's Muslim community--with a van used as a weapon...Monday's auto attack on a police van by a driver in Paris, whose car evidently contained explosives and other weapons...

The grim news, the chaos, the feeling (too often) that the world is spinning out of control--it is sobering, in the extreme.

Am sorry that Scott Pelley will soon be leaving the CBS Evening News. He is a fine anchor, and a terrific reporter; I've enjoyed watching his newscasts very much, over the past several years. Am certainly glad, though, that he's staying with 60 Minutes.
